According to Pennsylvania Dutch tradition, pork and sauerkraut will bring luck to you and your family in the year ahead. 12/01/2012

It is the Pennsylvania Dutch (German) tradition to serve pork and sauerkraut as the first meal of the New Year to bring good luck for the year. This dish is usually accompanied by some yummy mashed potatoes and sometimes a little apple sauce to sweet the meal.

We had a little less than traditional Pa. Dutch meal early last evening.  We had the traditional sauerkraut, but I bake it with boneless chicken breast for hours in the oven, because white chicken is better for you than pork and also it tastes great.  The mash potatoes are always a great accompliment to any meal.

Happy New Year from Pa. Dutch Country!
